According to the recent research studies, the type 2 diabetes has been seen as the new pandemic in the United States of America. During the past decade, the region has seen nearly 33% increase in Type 2 diabetes among the young people. This is highly worrisome. What are we doing wrong? And, most importantly, what do we do to defuse this outbreak?

What’s Causing Type 2 Diabetes in Children?

There are a lot of factors that may contribute towards the epidemic of type 2 diabetes. However, there are a certain things that are directly connected with the disease. Below are the most prominent factors that are known to cause diabetes in youngsters.

Sedentary Lifestyle

Most health researchers blame the couch and everything that lead our kids to have a sedentary or less active lifestyle. If your child spends more than 12 hours a day in a sedentary activity, such as TV and video game activity, then there is a higher risk that your child will develop type 2 diabetes. Fortunately, there are a lot of things that can be done to improve your child’s daily activities that may lead to gruesome illness like diabetes.

Here are the quick tips:

  • Reduce your child’s screen time immediately. Children are not supposed to spend more than 2 hours a day in front of a TV or any other screen based device for that matter.
  • Energize your child’s life by adding exciting tasks that he takes interest in doing. For example, children love playgrounds and commercial playground equipment. Make a habit of taking your child to play areas and recreation centers so he can engage in active play. Studies show that an hour spend in the park reduces the risk of diabetes, heart disease and obesity.

Lack of Nutrition

Sugar or glucose is the main component required by our bodies. The glucose provides the body cells the energy to function properly. In diabetes, our bodies are unable to make the right glucose level, which drastically affects our overall productivity. Glucose or sugar can be derived from one major source that is the food. Healthy food ensures that the body has enough energy to combat with viral infections. In addition, the proper food makes sure that the body cells are receiving all the energy they need.

Playgrounds and outdoor playground equipment can help your child to develop an active lifestyle, but what about the nutrition? How do you get your kids to eat more veggies and nutritional content? The best way to get your kids to have more healthy food is to sneak the veggies into whatever they like to eat. For example, you can add leafy greens to your child’s hamburger, or add veggies to his chipotle take out.

You can also serve salad with a salad dressing so it is easy for children to devour. Most children hate veggies because they taste dry. Salad dressing can solve that problem.
