Why Louis C.K. Hates Cell Phones For Kids And Why You Should Too

In an interview with Conan o Brien, the 3 time Emmy winning comedian, commented that he bate cell phones for kids. If you look closely at the comedian’s comments, you will realize how right he is and why we should all follow his theory of not letting kids have cell phones in an early age.

What Louis C.K. Thinks About Cell Phones?

Apparently our all time favorite comedian hates cell phones, especially for kids. Here is the comment made by the comedian.on the late night show: “I think these things are toxic, especially for kids...they don't look at people when they talk to them and they don't build empathy. You know, kids are mean, and it's 'cause they're trying it out. They look at a kid and they go, 'you're fat,' and then they see the kid's face scrunch up and they go, 'oh, that doesn't feel good to make a person do that.' But they got to start with doing the mean thing. But when they write 'you're fat,' then they just go, 'mmm, that was fun, I like that.”

He went on to say: “You need to build an ability to just be yourself and not be doing something. That's what the phones are taking away, is the ability to just sit there. That's being a person. Because underneath everything in your life there is that thing, that empty—forever empty. That knowledge that it's all for nothing and that you're alone. It's down there.”

The Lesson For Us

It is a well documented fact that the extensive use of cell phones is bad for our children and us. However, recent research shows that there could be much more side effects of cell phone than we are aware of. And after listening to Louis C.K. comments on the late night show, I am beginning to think how much destruction cell phones are causing. We are completely dependent on a small device for the good portion of our day. What happens if the cell phones cease to exist? Would you be able to remember the dozen contacts that were once just a swipe away?

Our children are spending more time on the couch than out in the playground with good old fashioned commercial playground equipment. By letting our kids become the same slaves that we have become to smart phone devices, we are only taking away their individual independence. Our kids need to learn how to be on their own; how to remember a phone number; how to spend some alone time without staring down at a screen, and how to learn to live without checking messages. Children need raw fun that can only be derived from outdoor playground equipment and play systems. Why can that be beneficial for our kids you may ask. Cell phones are good if they are used in limits. But the problem with our children is that they can’t utilize things, especially smart phones, in limits.

Therefore, as a parent, the best we can do is to not let our kids have the pleasure of using smartphones unless they are old enough to understand the consequences of using technological devices. This will be a huge challenge, but you have to take this step for your child’s well being.
